Let me start by saying that everyone I’ve ever interacted with at the town hall are professionals and seem genuinely eager to help in anyway that they can. Unfortunately, this is a case of one bad egg ruining it for everyone else.
On 8/14 I received a disturbing phone call from Bethel Town Clerk Lisa Bergh that was anything but professional. On the contrary, her behavior was unprofessional, rude, combative, escalatory, demeaning and down right corrupt. The reason for her outburst? Lisa had received a call from her “close friends” (Lisas words not mine) complaining about receiving unsolicited marketing mail from my company. I get that can be annoying for many people but it is far from illegal and we receive calls all the time asking to be removed from our mailing list. “No problem, my apologies for the inconvenience, you’ll be removed immediately”, is usually how the conversation goes. Ms. Bergh left no room for a civilized conversation going into full on Karen mode from the 1st second of the call. Her instantaneously irate and unhinged approach left me speechless and disgusted. She seemed to think that threatening me with her “direct line to the police department” would have some sort of affect. I’m still trying to understand what actual authority Ms. Berghs little ego convinced her she had as a simple Town Clerk in this scenario.
So, to state it as plainly as I can, Lisa Bergh invoked her position as a public official, and the connections to law enforcement that come with that position, for her own personal benefit and to that of her close personal friends. It’s not like she embezzled millions, that we know of, but nonetheless our conversation is the textbook definition of public corruption. Accordingly, I’ll be reporting my interaction with corrupt Bethel Town Clerk Lisa Bergh to Connecticuts Public Corruption Task Force.
