First, to be fully transparent I have had my share of tickets. Most for speeding a few for no seat belt. This ticket I received in Oak harbor months ago was for speeding and my license not being valid. (the license part is too long of a story to include)However, the officer who wrote me the ticket (Jacob) was kind and explained everything clearly. He made it seem like once I handled the license issue that that part of the ticket would be pretty much voided. (Or drastically reduced) Within the next few days I came up with the money and made sure my license was valid. Now, I could tell you the reason I was in Oak Harbor, but I wrote everything that needed to be said in the letter to the judge (it seems almost clear he/she didn't waste any time to acknowledge what I wrote). I'm sure had I been in person he/she would of listened (maybe). What I see is people who have absolutely no respect for peoples time or money. They want to believe people are angry because they got caught. Well here's someone telling you that's not the case. My speeding ticker was $139.00 and my no valid oper license with valid ID was $553.00. Now lets do the math. That is $692.00. The judge had the disrespect to send me back a ticket that was $407.00. I knew I would have to pay some of the ticket, but when I got the letter back that the "Judge" only decreased it by $285.00 I felt disrespected and unheard. My assumption at this point, this is how everyone who had to deal with this court feels. Why would the officer say the no valid ID would be drastically reduced? I thought there was a solid fee when you reinstated your license which again brings me to believe the judge either doesn't know what he/she is doing or they didn't read anything about the case. Or maybe they did at this point I don't care who did or didn't read it. That's all beside the point. I have to pay the $407.00. We all have our "things". (Why were struggling). Let's just put it this way I'm a full time student at WSU and make about $450 a month. I obviously have some things I have to pay like car insurance. This, again is besides the point. They offer me a payment plan which is the least they could do but not much. Here is where is gets absolutely ridiculous. They give me a payment plan of $25.00 a month for like 2 years. cool. great. I go to make my payment online and not to my surprise with my $25.00 payment there is a $28.00 service fee? like are you kidding me. And the online payment site is so sketchy. You can literally put in whatever you want as a citation number and put any dollar amount. I don't know who is running this, but regardless if it's a third party or not, Oak harbor court is trash. I have never had such a hard time making a payment. I've been trying to pay over the phone because of my lack of trust with the online payment, but you guessed it, hour wait times. I call the Oak Harbor court and you guessed it again they can't do anything to help! LOL at this point it is comical. Do better. I feel so bad for the other people who have to deal with judges and anyone else who is associated with that court. The only person out of this whole situation that actually showed me respect was the police officer who pulled me over. P.S. I'm still on hold waiting to make a payment and learn what B.S. service fee they are going to try me with. I wish I could put no stars. This establishment deserves literally no stars.

Yesterday, I went into this office to file paperwork for a protection order. The clerks questioned my testimony and told me that I don't have a case because the harassment I've been facing has been (...mostly) through electronic communication. They threw about ten pages of my paperwork in the trash and now I'm anxious that my case won't go through. I was too upset by how they were treating me to think clearly and ask for the papers they threw out. My hearing is on Monday and it is the weekend now, so I have no way to get the paperwork back or get new documents to fill out in time and I didn't make copies (please make copies people!!!!). I'm so upset by how the clerks handled this situation, and I will certainly be making a more formal complaint after I'm seen by a judge. The clerks over-functioned and acted as judge, and as far as I'm concerned their behavior was not only inethical, it was illegal. Im steamed, please if there is any take away in all of this - make copies of any important documents before you go to the island county district court - the clerks will screw you.

I've been here for a traffic ticket and a name change. Both times I had a great judge who was fair and kind. I get nervous in courtrooms but all of the staff here have been very welcoming and helpful.

Dan in the clerks office is not helpful and is incredibly condescending. It’s “impossible” for them to send you documents so you have to use a website called clerkepass which is another nightmare in and of itself. If you’re stationed in a different state you’re better off driving all the way back to Coupeville, WA to get your documents. Good luck.

The judge was kind and fair, he made it clear to me of the process as I'm not familiar with all the court process.

Had a great experience where the court moved my date up so I didn't have to pay extra fees. I was very grateful for this.
