This is a dying newspaper growing thinner by the week. I tried to cancel online -- same place that I signed up. That is a standard that the FTC is considering, that people shouldn't have to go through hoops to cancel, it should be as easy as it was to start an account. But the newspaper doesn't allow cancellation online. You have to call. But when you call there is no direct operator option, and the subscription department cleverly doesn't answer! No matter what time of the day you call, what day of the week, there is no answer. And, the mailbox for the circulation/subscription department is full!

It's a smart way to keep subscriptions active. Never let them cancel. I was inclined to go to the newspaper office, 20 miles away, but skeptical that anyone was there. I emailed the editor, no reply after two days. Then I emailed everyone on their contact page. The whole list. I'm hoping to get a reply. Meanwhile, I filed a consumer complaint with the West Virginia Attorney General's office. Next stop is small claims court if the subscription is not stopped.

Staff were not helpful, no one had answers on how to go about posting an obituary, and when we did speak with the one person who does them, she was rude, defensive and difficult to deal with. Don't try doing this on your own, have the funeral home facilitate this for you, you will be spared the headache of having to deal with these people.

I went in to pay up 3mo of paper for my husband who is currently incarcerated. The lady I dealt with was nice and knowledgeable about what I needed to know.

Total trash. Charge you an extra $20 to deliver same day, but they don't deliver for 3 days....avoid...they outsource to a group in Wisconsin, they are no longer local.
