Great corner store / neighborhood market with a wide selection of everyday staples. The deli has among the best meats you can find. You can pick up a great meal here or shop for all the ingredients to create one. Run by friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff.

Oh no! Please don't tell me they have turned from a "country" market to a liquor/smoke shop! I grew up right behind this store in 60's/70's, my greatest memories of people who owned & worked there are so great, and now it"s ghetto If I had the money I would buy this great store myself & return it to it's wonderful greatness.....you don't need this in this neighborhood ...

Rude service. The older lady who works here is obnoxious. We came in to price out a large order before the holiday and she got upset that we were comparing prices. Went on a tirade about how they have the best meat etc. Like calm down, I didn't even ask you for anything.

This is a great neighborhood market with a butcher shop to buy meats and cheeses, sandwiches, sodas, ice cream or groceries. It used to be called El Norte Market back in the day. I grew up in Escondido and walked here all the time to get something to eat as a kid The butcher would slice up 1 dollars worth of roast beef or cheese for me. I think somerimes they would give me extra. I can't believe the vacant dirt lot next to the market is still there and hasn't been built on.

This place is incredible! I got to markets all over San Diego County looking for good deals on meat, my diet is about 85% meat so when i heard about this place, I HAD to check it out. This place offers several types of red meats,poultry, and pig meat. All of which are beyond reasonably priced ? here's a list of pros and cons

Pros:
1- offers several types of red meat; beef, bison, elk, and venison, all reasonably priced
2- offers multiple types of poultry; chicken, game hens, duck
3- pork that is either farmed pork or WILD BOAR ?
4-everything is portioned to be affordable, for instance other markets offer brisket at a similar price of about $13-$15/lb however there were 2-5lb slabs available at the meat counter. I was eyeing a slab of brisket that was $32.
5- this place is family owned! The people that work here are very very kind and accommodating to what you would like or need.
6- every product, even down to the ground beef is of very very high quality. Far superior to any market I've been to yet. Every meat is rich in color and is kept very fresh.
7-open every day of the week

Cons- doesn't get the appreciation this place deserves, this place should be packed every single day. I will be shopping here regularly without hesitation and highly recommend anyone who sees this review to come visit the store. ESPECIALLY anyone who is a meat connoisseur

Glad to have a little market like this in walking distance! In addition to meat, they have basic grocery items, wine, and sodas. I've never been when they are cooking or preparing sandwiches (the pre made ones in the fridge didn't look very appealing) so I can't comment on that. They did have things like alligator, duck breasts and like, bison, which is neat. Don't know if I will eat any of it but my partner was excited about that and the variety of sausages (I quite liked their kielbasa but partner is Polish so he gave it a B- lol). In addition the label-less bread they sell is REALLY good. The person at the meat counter and up at the front have always been nice and welcoming. No bathroom that I'm aware of.

I would love if there were a little more veggie options or maybe fountain drinks. A nice icey drink for the walk home would be great!

Awesome Place!! As a recent transplant to CA from Ohio, it was great to be advised of this amazing Specialty Meats Market. It is fairly simple to find ground ham back home (largely influenced by our Amish population), but it is next to impossible to find that here... until now. I was advised to go to this butcher shop and request it and I am SO glad I did. Their customer service was amazing and - for a minimal cost - they ground up their ham for me to make ham loaf with. The quality of their meat is far superior than anything else I've seen since moving here and I plan to become a regular. They have earned this Buckeye's business!! Thanks!!!
