Would not suggest this office. I have brought my daughter here for two years. I have previously not had an issue until I called to schedule our yearly eye exam. With no communication they apparently no longer make eye appointment on Friday because the doctor is “semi retired” and there is no other doctor that works Friday in any location. I will be switching to a new eye doctor that has more flexibility in scheduling especially when we are dealing with a child that has a school schedule to work around.

I have been going to Eye Physicians & Surgeons for about 30 years and recently had two eye surgeries for Glacoma and Cataract. This is a fabulous facility. I have had two cataract surgeries with Dr Meskin, and follow-ups for close to 8 years now. The staff is always wonderful. I go to the Branford office. I have experienced nothing but the best care. They are compassionate and have sense of humor and kindness. It's clean and feel confident trusting my care to everyone in that office. That eye surgery center was impeccably clean and the staff was wonderful both times.

I always tell the people that I refer to these doctors, this is a practice you could model other practices on because it really is that good.

As far as regular appointments, I rarely have to wait at all and the Branford office has great parking. You pretty much can park in the back or right out front and walk right in. It's probably one of the nicest offices I've ever been a patient at and I give them high marks for everything.

I was a new patient. No one asked me to fill out any health related questions. Not even if I wore glasses. Dr. Patel ordered a test on me, the wrong patient. Unacceptable but mistakes happen, but no sorry, not even a "hello, nice to meet you." Waited 45 mins in waiting room then longer than that after my eyes were dilated. Dr. Patel was miserable and unprofessional. It was obvious he was incompetent. I felt bad for the medical assistant, I could tell she knew he ordered test on wrong patient. Then, I had this extra test performed on me. No apology. He never asked me if I had any concerns, issues or questions. I never leave negative reviews but I felt that I had to. I am a medical professional and definitely not perfect. He never even introduced himself or looked at my face. Stay away from him. No wonder why he was one of the only doctor taking new patients.

Was never informed that Dr. Bacal no longer took Eyemed at my daughter's appointment in September 2023. They called to confirm a few days before and asked, "is the insurance the same"? It was. I was never informed on the confirmation call or when I checked in that he no longer took my insurance. I had at the time Aetna for Medical and EyeMed for Vision. My youngest daughter had her exam in March 2023 and they still took EyeMed then. Upon my appointment check-in in Sept, I was still not told of any change that they no longer took EyeMed. I think a week or so later, Aetna posts that a claim which was submitted was denied. It was Eye Physicians Surgeons. I was baffled why they would bill my medical and not EyeMed. I then got a bill for $300. When I called about it, they told me "Dr. Bacal doesn't take EyeMed anymore" and nothing about why they billed Aetna. I said no one alerted me of this change either on the call or at check-in.
They took it in March, why would I assume they changed when I had my other daughter in September. It is not my responsibility to see if they were now out of network, especially 6 months in-between. If I was told this, I would have cancelled the appointment. This is very poor business ethic to not inform patients of any changes to their insurance policy and very poor when they ask you "is everything the same" when they call to confirm. Next time I should ask "Is everything the same with you"? If you are doing a yearly exam and something changes within the business, it is your responsibility to alert the patient when you are calling to confirm. They put me to collections, and I am fighting this as I should not be liable to pay this bill in full as it is 100% their fault for not informing the patient in order to keep the appointment and bill out of network. Be warned, when you call or they call to confirm, make sure they still take your insurance because now it is our responsibility to verify of their changes. Next up is the BBB.

The unprofessionalism displayed by both Dr. Fish and Dr. Bacal throughout the years has been astronomical. At my appointment today, they were both in the hallway outside of my exam room loudly talking about how annoyed they were that they had to accommodate for my appointment, which went on for a while before I stepped out of my room and confronted them. They were both incredibly harsh and nasty while talking about me, when they were the ones who gave me the wrong prescription, a situation that I have no control over. They would not have needed to accommodate for my appointment had Dr. Fish done his job correctly and got the right prescription the first time. This foul treatment has been experienced by every member of my family and many other friends who USED to go to this practice. It is never okay to loudly speak about a patient in that way, everyone who was in the office is now privy to that information due to how loud they were. It is extremely unprofessional and rude on their part and embarrassing for me to be spoken about over something that I had no control over. I have never in my life been treated in that manner at a doctors office before and hope I never do again. Especially because this is all due to the doctor making a mistake in giving me the wrong prescription. Even the nurse had no idea what he had done to get the prescription that he came up with.

On referral from my eye doctor I made an appointment for cataract surgery. 3 week's later they call to cancel because they choose not to accept my secondary insurance. The woman said that if I had questions to call them. I did, at the number she gave. Never got a call back from the message I left. Soooo glad I didn't trust my eye to this uncaring group.

I really like Dr Thera Bowen, she has excellent way of making me feel comfortable and confident in her exam. I only gave 4 stars because of the experience I had for my cataract surgery, in Milford the place was not clean 1 bathroom which was dirty, the nurse tried to get me to go with a mild tranquilizer I didn’t I felt my eye was numb enough and felt it was a money maker so that worked for me. I didn’t go back for my second surgery that was over 3 years ago still haven’t decided if I will even get my cataract so far my eyes are ok?
