Truly abysmal. Just like any other DMV. You need some abstract document printed they never mentioned was required before? "we don't have a printer", when every single desk has a printer. So you go and print the document 5 minutes down the street and head back. "Sorry you missed your appointment go wait in line". It's not like you come here by choice. It's gonna suck regardless.

I don’t have high expectations of DMW's in general. That said, I needed some documents from them so I went to this location since it is right next to my work. After standing in line for approximately 30 minutes, I was given a number. I waited 3 hours and 15 minutes only to be told that they cannot provide the registration information I needed for fastrack, to remove violations from my account since I sold the vehicle 6 months ago. The clerked which helped me was very rude, I asked for a supervisor. He was equivalently un-helpful after waiting another 15 minutes for him. It unfortunate that the start here staff here are not knowledgeable about what services they provide. In today’s world, it would seem like fastrack can verify the owner of record with DMV for purposes of citation. But, why would they do that when they can just send you on goose chase to other government agencies that are NOT helpful.

Listen, I understand going to the DMV is never intended to be a pleasant experience. However the employees at this location are deeply disgruntled. Seemingly intentionally unhelpful and outright rude. A waited inside for an hour to discuss my citation with the woman at the desk, only to be told to go wait outside for a different employee to handle my inquiry. Another 45mins waiting patiently to ask my question and hopefully get help. A young black guy finally begrudgingly listens to my question. I tried to be polite and patient, he raised his voice to me and gestured wildly. I don't know what I did to recieve such a response. I decided to leave and go to the highway patrol station for help with understanding the citation and remediation. Mike was so polite and helpful at highway patrol. Made my
Very bad day much better. Avoid the DMV at all costs

This place is the closest a mortal can get to experiencing one of the lowest levels of perdition.

Before you go… Get ready for:
- absolutely no guidance on what to do and where to go
- employees so consumed by apathy, so eroded by the misery of state bureaucracy, that an AI bot feels more loving and empathetic
- a building filled to absolute capacity with angry, hopeless people who’ve likely taken PTO to spend a day shuffling paperwork and watch as their baffling number system ticks down to their chosen moment
- lines that go no where
- rows and rows of empty windows that stand as insulting monuments to your time being sucked away from you like the remnants of a star being pulled into a massive black hole
- being wrong about everything you’ve done, brought, prepared or filled out, even if it was just explicitly given to you. Idiot.
- ever amassing existential terror as you reconsider every life decision that led you to such a godless abyss

After multiple hours quietly seething within the Corte Madera DMV, one truly understands the deeper meaning behind the “banality of evil”

Inefficient and don't care.
Second trip to renew my license in person - in addition to an inordinate amount of time doing this on the website.
The clerk tells me that NY has blocked my license and she sends me off with that dmv's phone number. Why couldn't they have told me this, idk, after the first two hour wait? Or on the website? So now I'm 8 hours in to a license renewal process.
8 hours is a day of my life.
You can't do better than that?

Highly recommend using the online DMV waitlist ahead of time. It was super efficient and showed me where I was virtually in line. I was also able to grab lunch while on the virtual waitlist, then drive over when it was my turn. Quickest time I’ve ever spent at the DMV!

Dear California Department of Motor Vehicles,

I am writing to express my deep frustration with the registration process for my out-of-state vehicle. Despite making five attempts to register the vehicle, my efforts have been met with numerous requests for additional forms and documentation at each turn.

I want to emphasize that I have diligently complied with every request and provided all the necessary information as requested. However, it has been frustrating to encounter repeated obstacles and requirements for additional forms, causing delays and confusion in the registration process.

I understand the importance of ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations and requirements for registering an out-of-state vehicle in California. However, the repeated requests for additional forms have made the process unnecessarily complex and challenging.

I respectfully request that the California DMV review my case and provide guidance on how to proceed with registering my out-of-state vehicle in a more efficient and streamlined manner. I would greatly appreciate any assistance or clarification that can be provided to help expedite the registration process and resolve any outstanding issues.

Furthermore, I am concerned about the level of service provided by your staff. I cannot help but wonder if your staff is inadequately trained or if there is a deliberate targeting of older individuals for unnecessary bureaucracy and delays. It is disheartening to feel as though the older generation is being taken advantage of in the registration process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and assistance in resolving this issue.

Sincerely,

Go up
