As an intermediate player who grew up in Redondo, I’ve played volleyball on the beach for most of my life, but I never acquired the knowledge and skills that can only come from professional coaching. Since starting at HVA, I’ve learned so much about beach volleyball in terms of the essential techniques, gameplay, and strategies. The coaches are so supportive and encouraging, and I’ve had so much fun playing every week with the other students! Can’t recommend enough.

Dennis, Jesse, and John from Hermosa Volleyball Academy have made me a better volleyball player, hands down. I continue to learn with the variety of drills and techniques that I add to my game. They will help you fine tune your play and are attentive. I could not recommend them enough!

I learned about this class through a friend I play indoor volleyball with. I noticed that every time she came to indoor volleyball she was better and better. I complimented her on her improvement and she told me that she was taking beach volleyball classes and sent me the link to Hermosa Beach Volleyball Academy. I’ve really enjoyed this volleyball class that this is the second time I’ve signed up for it, the first being the beginning class and the second being the intermediate class. The beginning class teaches a lot of vocabulary and technique, which I really appreciated because it helped me understand more about what is happening in a game. The beginning coaches are Patrick and Bill and they are helpful, attentive, and supportive. Coach Bill helped me get better at underhand serving which was great of him. The intermediate class focuses on drills and communication with your team mates, which is very important. The intermediate/advanced coaches are Jesus and Dennis. Coach Dennis recently helped me learn how to do a jump hit and took the time to work with me one-on-one, which was really helpful because that was a hard skill for me to understand at first. I can keep going, the coaches are really nice and they will even participate in the drills/games and will give you tips on how to play better in the moment. There are also other assistant coaches who go around to each group and help with techniques. All coaches are mindful of the heat and remind the players to take breaks/hydrate and sometimes give fruit to the players, it’s a nice and supportive environment.

Hermosa Volleyball Academy has been integral in improving my volleyball skills. Dennis knows the game and makes every session engaging and fun, while also pushing each student to increase their level of play. All the coaches spend time fine tuning each individual’s needs. Whatever type of player you are currently, you will leave a better, more confident player.

I was lucky enough to find this volleyball club after just moving back to Hermosa. It is so much fun and I feel I am gaining so much knowledge on how to play and even after a few weeks I notice my game has already improved. Everyone is so nice and the coaches are so great!! I look forward to my Sunday mornings here. I HIGHLY recommend Hermosa Volleyball Academy!!

Highly recommend! I am able to take weekly sessions with my daughter as she loves to get extra volleyball work in. This is our second clinic and the pace of the learning and scrimmage are challenging and fun. The coach teaches you the whole game from beginning to scrimmage. Five stars!

I'm an intermediate-advanced leveI volleyball player who's been out of the scene for several years. I wanted to get back into volleyball, so I joined the Hermosa Beach Volleyball Academy to sharpen my skills. This in my second group of classes and appreciate the variety of drills taught and practiced. I enjoy playing King of The Hill at the end of each class, when I pair up with a random person, who are all great people. I have noticed an improvement with my swing and cut shots over my prior skill ability.
A must mention - somehow the academy finds a place where we can meet to finish off the day with a cold brew and something to eat, at a discount! This session we get 30% off at Watermans.
If you're looking to get into volleyball or improve on your current skills, I highly recommend this class.

I can’t say enough good stuff about the Hermosa Volleyball Academy. The coaches, Dennis and Patrick are amazing. Apart from learning how to play volleyball I found these classes an amazing way to meet people. Dennis and Patrick really emphasize the social aspect of taking part in the classes in addition to learning how to play volleyball. By the time the class is over you will know everyone in the class. It’s a really great thing to do if you’re new to the Southbay or just want to meet new people.
