A remnant of great California gold rush and a well preserved park. Road going up to the park is gravel but any sedan can drive slowly, easily. Has clean restrooms, fee is per person and felt bit high. Can see variety of structures and can easily spend couple of hours looking through exhibits.

I had a lot of fun at this park with my boyfriend. It was really cool to learn the history of this town and the residents. I paid the $3 for the walk through guide, and it was worth it; there was a lot of great info. It's definitely worth the day trip from the Reno area.

Located in California east of the Sierra Nevada on the border with Nevada, Bodie is a ghost town which was built as a gold mining settlement in 1859 and gradually abandoned in the 1930s. Thanks to the low humidity, many buildings, equipment, and cars have been well preserved, which is why Bodie is now considered the best-preserved ghost town in the USA. There is a church, a school, a brick bank building, a bar, a shop and several residential buildings as well as a cemetery and an old gas station to visit. Since many of the furnishings are still unchanged in the buildings, a visit to Bodie feels like a journey back in time. There is a large parking lot at the entrance; admission prices ($8 for adults, $5 for children ages 4 to 17) are very reasonable. Since there are no shops on site, you should take something to drink with you - especially in summer! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Lee Vining and Mono Lake area.

This place is definitely worth the 10-mile drive to get to it. They have so many houses, a church, a school house, a store, a barbershop, a hotel, and a museum here. They also have the big smelter and other buildings for processing the ore and a cemetery. You can't go into the buildings, but you can look through the windows and see what is inside. It is a fantastic ghost town and very well taken care of. You do have to pay $8 per person to visit it. It is so worth the price of admission.

Visiting at end of October. We got a little different view of Bodie with a dusting of snow. The town of Bodie has been deserted since 1940’s. People just left. So there are homes that have beds, blankets, furniture and different parts of equipment laying around. The state is not preserving or changing anything here. It’s in a state of arresting decay. At the height of gold mining some 10k people lived here with 2000 buildings. There were several fires that burned buildings. There are about 50 still standing. There is also a cemetery up the hill which is interesting to see.
We enjoyed seeing the life in the past. Wondered how they decided to go the direction of Bodie. It’s 13 miles off highway 395, the last 3 miles is a dirt/gravel road in the middle of no where. It had to be a hard life. Highly recommend visiting this town of yester years to see how life was for people searching for their dreams.

Returned to this place after 23 years, when my husband and I visited prior to having kids. So it was very exciting to return now that our kids are old enough to enjoy the road trip.

Place is just as I remembered, if not better!
The drive to the town has lovely views.
Wear your walking shoes and bring some water for the walk, and snacks to enjoy in your car.

The last section of the mountain road is a gravel road, which is a bit difficult to walk on, but once you arrive you will feel that it is definitely worth a visit. The entrance fee is $8 for adults and $5 for children. There is a parking lot and toilet. The supplies stored in the house also show that this place was once glorious. Please bring enough water, wear sunscreen, and stay for two or three hours to slowly watch.

Loved it , I suggest you stay the whole day. Nice restroom facilities but no water or food sales . Also take your most comfortable shoes because it’s really spread out and on small hillside . If you have a hard time walking g or getting around think about an all terrain scooter or wheelchair . Plenty of ADA toilets , 4 parking for van accessible but roads trail all dirt and gravel . And inclines !
