Supermarkets can polish their apples very nicely, and arrange them in seductive designs. But you never really quite know from what tree they've been plucked or how fresh they might be. At Dayton's Warren Orchards, there are wooden boxes that hold apple and pears just picked, the air is redolent of the fruit, an amalgam of pears and apples mixed with Autumn and the golden hills above, and it is an exhilarating experience seldom found anymore--plus, you get off-the-tree fresh fruit for an excellent price!
