I have paid my utility bills with Anacortes for years and have found all the methods of payment to be completely satisfactory: in person, mailing a check, dropping a check, autopay, and using the Paymentus portal to pay online, which I have done extensively. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful if you call. This is “Utility Billing” we are reviewing. I always found the other 1-star review off, and now I read it. He is complaining about not having more retail box store businesses in the city limits. That is a political question, and he blames “the city,” when in fact these sorts of decisions are the greater will of his neighbors. If most of us wanted it differently, we could elect city council members to reflect that desire. Regardless, policy choices about development should not be reflected in a review of the sweet folks managing only “utility billing.” From one of your neighbors!

Anacortes makes money off the sales tax of building and selling expensive homes. This is their main source of income. Also the tax off of renovating and selling homes. And people wonder how Anacortes got so expensive. Meanwhile they won't allow affordable retail into the city. Residents drive 30 minutes away for better prices and give their sales tax to neighboring cities. They placate residents by building "affordable" housing which does nothing for the people that currently live here.
