Celilo Falls was previously here before Dalles Dam was. This was an area of extreme importance to Native Americans who lived and fished for salmon here. The salmon populations are unable to navigate the river in order to reach spawning grounds. This completely altered the way of life of the native people and the salmon that swam in these waters. Absolutely tragic. If you are reading this, please pass this message along to raise awareness. Dams are damaging.

In middle school, now over a decade ago, I went to Celilo Village and learned about how this dam destroyed Celilo falls from an indigenous educator, and how important the falls were to native life. Years later I still think about it and my heart aches.
