Very cool museum, it’s free and open to the public. definitely recommend, if you are limited on mobility though you will not be able to tour the submarine, you can still enjoy the sights and library! Didn’t realize how small yet big the subs are, pretty neat look into the lives of sailors for 6 months or longer at a time at sea.

I had a great time. I went aboard the USS Nautilus and was both amazed by the complexity of the machine. I have always been interested in submarine technology and this boat, the first of its class was amazing in what it achieved. It was disappointing that only the front half of the boat was open at the time. However, I understand from one of the navy guys who was in attendance that it is likely that the machinery spaces and the reactor space are likely to be opened up in the not too distant future. The museum itself was interesting, smaller than I expected but nonetheless informative. I did however feel that the exhibits stopped in the early 2000s and they have been substantial developments in submarine technologies since then.

This places was great. There was so much to see. I spent so much time reading all of the information they had. Going out to the nautilus was awesome to be able to do.

The Nautilus is difficult to visit if you are arthritic as I am so I didn't see all of it. But it's a well kept museum ship. The museum has a nice overview of the history of submarines. My one criticism is that the plaque next to the MK14 torpedo makes no mention of how terrible it was, it just gives the specs of how it was supposed to work, no mention that it didn't work for the first couple of years of the war.

Impressive collection of artifacts, both famous and unique. Staff consists of civilian volunteers as well as active-duty sailors assigned to the Nautilus. All are very knowledgeable and friendly. Easy access via wheelchair. The main deck of the Nautilus is wheelchair-accessible although below decks she is not.
