These guys are always nice and doing their best in a system that doesn't seem to really appreciate them. Some people are so mean to these guys and all I can think is, why are you a dick to the people who are trying to help you get food etc? The only confusing part was I would get things in the mail way later than what was discussed so it was confusing on timelines (didn't I already send that in? moments).

I have only had pleasant experiences with the front desk staff and the social workers there. Particularly Sineace with child care and Maleah. Working with the public is a challenge especially when you are trying to make sure they are getting what they need and the public isn't so pleasant either at times. Give em some grace.

It has been more than a year and these people have not got back with us, they claim there are so many kids that need foster families, so we signed up, we did the online course that was required to get started, hours wasted, they claim they desperately need foster families, but they need a minimum of 4 families to host the class, you would think they would take all they can get right? Twice the class was cancled because they only had 2 families, ours and one other, this place is a joke, I find them lazy and I can not progress on with them to even trust them.

It's not the best feeling having to walk into the social services department in the first place. People need help, and it takes courage to ask for assistance. I have endured 3 different employees on the other side of the glass at this office who were utterly condescending and bitter. The last time I had to go in there was to re-apply for food stamps because I was physically hungry and fed up with trying to dig change out of my cupholders. The person who called me up to consult made me feel like I was wasting her time and being untruthful. She presented as disappointed and had me second guessing myself on every answer on my application. I felt like I was being interrogated by someone who gets paid to not believe me. I was full blown crying by the time I got to the parking lot and I have yet to hear anything about my application. Still hungry.

Shoutout to the one super pretty foreign lady who's duty it was to explain the benefits to me and make sure I understood. Her compassion and warmth, even through her scripted shpiel, are very much appreciated.

Social services, please do the community a favor and train empathy and compassion to the employees you have dealing one on one with all of us, or hire people with the desire to help others.

I have been switched between four caseworkers in a year. It came time for me to reapply for EBT for a review. I filled everything out. Never heard anything back for almost a month. I called and they had lost my application somewhere in cyber space. Seriously?! That application has social security numbers and everything on it.

I have received nothing by mail even though I was told by my caseworker that her supervisor would approve it and I should see my benefits within in a week. This was two weeks ago.

I have since called her and left three messages and have heard nothing back. This is ridiculous and if I don't hear anything by the end of the day tomorrow I will be reaching out to a supervisor and will see what I need to do to file a complaint and have a hearing if I need to.

Although website tells that the harrisonburg location opens at eight. IT DOESN'T. It opens at 0900. Painted on the door. Nine us a regular hour and isn't associated with a holiday schedule

I normally do not leave reviews, but I feel the need to this time. As a public agency that they are, they should respect peoples time and acknowledge people as humans. I was given a set time for an appointment, why did I have to wait 50 minutes, and no one let me know if there was some type of delay? When I went to reception, they sent me to another area to reschedule. When I got to the other side to reschedule, they were sending me back the other way. Please keep staff communication open amongst each other. When you give a person an appointment time, please respect their time and follow through with the appointment time. I went out of my way to schedule my work time around this appointment. Also, customer service is lacking there, please work on this with front staff. Thank you.

This is my 2nd experience with Social Services. Why did I think the 2nd experience would be better!?! Lady at reception was a different lady this time, white early 50 women with mid eastern accent. Very rude! I simply asked to turn in documents and she advised me I could drop off at green box at entrance. Perfect, I understood that I then asked for a piece of tape, a piece of tape! She then told me she could not and I needed to sign in on the tablet. Are you kidding me?!? A person with common sense would say okay here is your tape and now I can move on with my day. One less person to deal with. It’s incredibly frustrating to see this type of customer service being provided to the community! Once again, please follow through with customer service training for staff, especially front line staff. Very unacceptable service.

I came to cancel Medicaid benefits and the two ladies in the front desk who speak Spanish are so lovely. I didn’t get to talk to anyone else but them and it’s my first time here but they greeted me so nice even thought it was 5 mins till closing time. One of them, short curly hair, took her time to explain everything with details. God bless you ladies !!! Everything comes back to you !!
