Love Dr Amy Urbanek and her caring competent staff. Reasonable prices great place to take your pet. You can rest assured your pets are in good hands. I have been taking my three dogs since 2021.

I brought my sick cat in, phoebe, only place to fit her in quickly. Sadly it was too far gone and we would be spending thousands of dollars and the workers expressed this, didn’t try to trick us into spending money. So we went ahead and decided that her being out to sleep was the best idea for her. They took her in, got her arm catheter in and I was able to be in the room. I held my baby for about 10 minutes while she slowly dosed off from the anesthesia. Soon the dr came in, she was very nice. She injected my baby as I held her and felt her leave in my arms. She waited a few seconds before taking phoebe to the back. Once brought back out to our car, she was in a very nice box for a burial, and they gave us a clay paw print of her two front paws with her name. Although I was sad I was very appreciated of everything the staff had done. I just now got a card in the mail from the vets office, it was very heartfelt and signed by the Dr and staff. This place is very considerate and overall they made the process very easy. Wish it wouldn’t have happened but it did, and they did amazing at their job.

This place is a joke. They charge hundreds to thousands of dollars for "humane" care of your pets yet when your pet is seriously ill you are ignored and pushed to the wayside while your pet suffers.

The attached picture was taken this spring. What started out as a pea sized lump under the skin (that I brought to the good old docs attention....to be told it was a fatty tumor and nothing to worry about.) Turned into this within 4 months. After repeat calls to the office with no response about how quickly it was growing and a yearly wellness examine prior to it rupturing...all was ok with her according to the doc but we schedule a surgery to remove it. Rushed her to the office 3 weeks before surgery when it ruptured to be met with....that'll be an emergency vet fee for surgery. HELL NO IT WONT!. This woman is NOT concerned about your pet or their wellbeing, she is ALL about the money. Come to find out the mass was cancerous and she really had to slice her leg to remove it then couldn't guarantee she got it all, to be referred to an oncology vet in Pittsbirgh for further treatment.
Which brings me to the wellness check this past week. Same dog was brought into her office for a wellness check, vaccines, nail trim, and routine meds for flea and tick. She was taken into the office by the staff, a lil while later the staff came back to my car and informed me that my dog was in AFib (irregular heart arrhythmia). Was told she wouldn't be getting any vaccines except rabies. Now keep in mind i took her brother in as well for the same treatment except rabies vaccine. I was charged almost $600, and was referred to a cardiology vet either in OH or Pittsburgh. NOTHING was prescribed to my female to control the AFib until I could get her to the specialist. Doberman are prone to heart problems and YES my female is an older dog but healthy otherwise.

The specialist cannot get us in until the second week of January. Since they haven't seen my female in office they cannot prescribe comfort, control medications so they referred my back to the good ol doc here. Her words were ....come let us do chest rays and we will consult with the cardiology Dr's and get her something prescribed because I'm not a cardiologist. Yet she was able to prescribe heart medication to another lady who had her dog in the office the same day I had mine in there. Now let me come in and pay you another 375 to 400 bucks for xrays just so i can turnaround and go in January and have the same xrays done again at the cardiologist. See the pattern?

Dr. Urbanek I know you are the only one effected by this inflated economy and need the rest of us and our pets to support you, but in my world, I work hard for my money and I pay out of pocket in full everytime I bring my dogs in to see you not knowing the quality of care you actually give them once they walk into your office without me but I assure you .....I won't be bringing them back. Any vet who is more concerned about their back pocket instead of the quality of care they provide to our pets definitely shouldn't have a veterinarian license. And because I refuse to continue to hand money out to you for testing that will be repeated again, you feel it necessary for my dog to suffer. I'm glad to know you can live with yourself in that knowledge.

If anyone takes the time to actually read this....RUN, RUN EXTREMELY FAST. DO NOT USE THIS VET. Especially if you care anything about your pets.

New Martinsville Animal Hospital is truly one in a million. They take their patients seriously, they will put in the work to make sure your animals are treated to the best of their abilities, and they are always so nice. We have two dogs we bring to them, one of which is a senior pup who gets severe separation anxiety when she’s not close to her owner. The vets and techs are the only people we’ve been able to find where she feels comfortable enough to go with them, and doesn’t show any signs of distress after a visit. They’ve given her medications that have made her golden years pain free, and helped her regain her urge to play and run at the age of 13.

In a different instance, my younger dog ate a toxic substance and had to be taken to an emergency hospital about 2 hours from home during the middle of the night. The emergency vet said that it would be in my dogs best interest to continue receiving treatment through out the day, but it was physically impossible for us to be away from home for that long. We ended up contacting New Martinsville Animal Hospital, and they were able to have my dog continue receiving blood treatment at their office, it was an absolute life saver. Not to mention my other dog also loves everyone in the office, and is the only dog I know that is genuinely excited to go to the vet.

They are super kind and helpful regarding rescheduling. If you decide to switch vets, they have no problem transferring your animals medical records over to them. The only catch is that they can be expensive, but if you can afford it, it is absolutely worth every cent. I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for us.

At the vet now. Walked in with pup and the large and beautiful waiting room was empty. I did not know to wait in car and was not told upon making the appointment over the phone. I informed them my car a/c is hit or miss and they said I could wait inside. My appointment was for 2:20 and at 2:43 a young lady came to me to start the scheduled visit which was pretty good.
After exchanging all info, they took my pup and I went outside. I was asked by the tech before she left with my pup if I had a maximum dollar amount to spend, even though we just went over in details the specific tests that were going to be be done. The tech gave me the estimated pricing and all was good so I was confused as to why she would ask me that, seeing how we just went over what was going to be done.

I did ask why their customers policy was to wait in your car, or as they, "curbside service", the tech said it is so they can see more patients. Essentially, your car is the waiting room for New Martinsville Animal Hospital. In this heat, be sure to have plenty of gas in your car tank and great working air conditioning.

I understand the premise of wanting to service more animals, but if you have 13 or more cars in the parking lot and only 8 or so exam rooms in the building, as well as a certain number of employees, you are still limited on the amount of patients you can see.

Is this the new care and service standard where you pull up, park, answer questions via phone, hand over your beloved pet to a tech, wait in your car, pay bill over the phone? Essentially, no contact, no inter personal skills required or given. Your furbaby's value feels a bit diminished and yet you are trusting the tech and doctor 100 %.

I understand the service industry is rough! The public is very demanding, often rude and they know it all. However, there are many others who are caring and are extremely helpful and understanding.

It all seems a bit odd.

It is 3:37 and I am still outside by my car. The tech just came out and informed me that the tests are being ran and that my fur baby is comfortable inside.

We are now up to 15 cars in the parking lot. I believe that sometimes as business owners, we enact policies, that we feel, will benefit the business as a whole but do not take into consideration the customer and the long term effect.

It is now 4:00 and still waiting outside.

4:05, tech came out with review and results. I went inside to pay and left shortly there after. 15 minutes shy of 2 hours is unacceptable and your curbside system did not work today. This may be a great system for some in dealing with their fur babies and their health. This is definitely not a successful "curbside service" system for me. Very disappointed.

They've been our vets since Dr. Barnes opened! The new owners have THE MOST caring staff I've had the displeasure of meeting. Let me explain, Baylee (15) is or was, my parents beloved furbaby. She stopped breathing while I was visiting from out of state. I called. Within 15 minutes Baylee was crossing the rainbow bridge. I was allowed to cradle her in her favorite blanket the whole while.
