Nice fruit wine vineyard and meadery. Now I'm not a fan of fruit wines, but I did enjoy the Perfect Pear...it would go well with an apple-pork loin or a cheesecake.

I keep bees and dabble at making mead (AKA honey wine). Several of their meads were familiar but their Hunter's Moon was unique... Very enjoyable. I purchased their persimmon mead to share with a neighbor since we both make mead and have persimmons. Hopefully it will be just as nice as their pumpkin mead.

This is a great hidden gem with unique wine and meads (and friendly critters). The staff is great, and there are ample places to sit. Everything we tried was delicious. When I thought I lost my wedding ring, they were the only of of three places that followed up, and they did so hours before opening.

November 16, 2024 - Not your typical VA vineyard . . . fun spot with live farm animals for children to enjoy! Started as a berry picking farm in 1993 by Marlyn & Sue Allen .
By 1998 , under new ownership, this farm morphed into the Hill Top Berry Farm Winery & Meade Vineyard.

They produce 18 wines , and 22 Meads . . . Most of their wines are based on fruits !

Blueberries, blackberries, plums, peaches, apples, elderberries, cantaloupes, apricots, strawberries, cranberries, etc.

They have indoor & outdoor patio seating. Visitors can taste a flight of 8 types of wines & meads in small “ sip cups” for $5 ! As you relax and sip from an extensive 32 variety selection . . . you may wish to purchase some crackers & cheese from their “frig”choices. You may also wander about the farm to pet the goats, and feed the ducks?

We enjoyed our time at the Hill Top Berry Farm, and took home a couple of bottles of the cranberry wine 🍷 , for Thanksgiving!

Very nice little winery. Our second trip did not disappoint ( other than being too early for the baby goats ) Sweet vixen is a must try if you like strawberries. Oh and ask about the chocolate truffles, yummy.

This was an unexpectedly beautiful spot where we had a lovely brunch outdoors, surrounded by goats, blackberry bushes for picking, ducks and comfortable seating and very friendly staff. The lavender and rosemary were so fragrant in the garden too! There was an array of food, such as charcuterie, cheeses, crackers and packaged and bottled foods that were out of the ordinary. Think spicy quail eggs, dried beef lung and infused honeys to name a few. They even had chicken and duck eggs for sale in the cooler. See photos. This was definitely a great place to come to!

Getting to this place was a little interesting, I think it would be great to have some more signage on route to let you know you're not in the middle of nowhere haha. However, once we got there, the service was superb and I am really happy to report that the mead and wine was phenomenal. We are big mead drinkers and I was so happy to taste meads that were true to the flavor profiles they reported. We started off with a 5 dollar tasting which was so helpful to see what we would like. And they have options of purchasing flights with cheese and crackers and chocolates as different palate cleansers. I was a big fan of all the tastings and options. Also the outdoor seating area was very comfortable. Highly recommend!

What a hidden gem! I think they I’ve learned to really enjoy mead and Hill Top makes the whole experience SO very enjoyable. We had the small sampler (in the communion style cups) and then progressed to the tasting in the carafes, complete with bread, cheese and chocolate. After that we fed the goats behind the store … what a pleasant day! The person in the store was friendly, welcoming & knowledgeable. If you are on the Nelson 151 you need to stop here!!!

Great little winery in the Charlottesville vicinity! We even stumbled upon a cool copperhead when leaving the vineyard.
