My wife and I've been coming to the Gelston House for many years, during the summer we sit outside on the patio this time around we were inside as we were seeing a show at the Goodspeed opera house which is next door. The food and service are always top-notch, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The views here are great overlooking the river as well as some of the historic buildings in the area. The dining area is neat, clean, and always well decorated especially this time of the year during the holidays when we went. I definitely recommend this place whether you stop in during the summer and hang out outside or swing by during the holiday seasons to see the decorations and have a wonderful meal you won't go wrong.

Fist time I go there place for Christmas party. Place is really nice. Appetizers are really good. The ceasar salad is horrible would not recommend is dry and croutons are salty. I have the cod for my entree and it was delicious, I also have a apple martini, I really wanted a French martini but the waiter says that they run out of the stuff to make it. I lady that met at the party recommended a key lime martini and that one was really good. The cheesecake was also really good but I did like better the carrot cake that they also run out that. Overall I give 3 stars because even though it looks like a nice place and all but they seem to run out of a lots of stuff.

We went to dinner at the Gelston House last night. The food was delicious (crab cakes, sordfish, steak, coffee with bailey's). The service was great. The manager came over to our table and talked to us for a bit, a very nice guy, everyone was very pleasant. The restaurant was packed, and food was delivered promptly. Beautiful building and clear view of the river. We will come back.

The food was delicious as usual. Our server was sort of an airhead, though. He was very pleasant but did not do anything unless we specifically asked and then reminded him. Then, at one point, we, and diners at another table asked if the window shade could be lowered because we were being blinded. While attempting to lower the shade, he pulled the entire thing down onto the people sitting by the window.

The menu is both creative and comforting, with dishes that cater to diverse palates. Each course was beautifully presented, and the flavors were nothing short of spectacular. The attention to detail in every bite demonstrated the chefs' dedication to excellence. From appetizers to dessert, everything exceeded expectations.

The seating arrangements were spacious and inviting, with a thoughtful layout that allowed for both intimacy and comfort. The view of the Connecticut River added a magical touch, enhancing the overall dining atmosphere. Whether indoors or on the patio, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between elegance and relaxation.

The service at Gelston House is where it truly shines. Belladina, our server, was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable, making sure every need was met with a smile. Ben, the bartender, impressed with his skillful concoctions and friendly demeanor, adding to the seamless dining experience.

More like an old-fashioned restaurant, which is not a bad thing. Entrees are generous and delicious. The vegetable side dish was just the over-cooked, squishy kind. It could have been better if the veggies were fresh and crunchy. We had to request bread, which seems to be a trend lately. Butter patties were the open-your-own type. An upscale restaurant like this should have butter served in a small bowl, slightly softened instead. The bread was delicious - crusty on the outside and soft in the inside. Olive oil was not an option. By the time we got to order it, it was served just after the entrees arrived. The dining room is beautiful, and the restaurant sits on the banks of the Connecticut River, a gorgeous site. Tables are spaced generously separated. Our waiter (perhaps a high-school kid) was well-meaning and friendly. He didn't have full knowledge of the menu, perhaps because he was new. But he certainly rushed back to the kitchen to get our questions answered. Admirable. OJT is one way to learn, but training by management is preferred. We liked him and we know he will be a good waiter. His friendly smile and willingness to help are real plusses. We appreciated the location next to The Goodspeed Opera House, which is a treasure in itself.
