This is such a great museum who has really made it their mission to preserve maritime enthusiasm among many varied visitors. The director Susan is superbly accomodating, doing her very best to ensure that a remarkable time is had by all. She went far out of her way to arrange a Harbor light tour for me on the tail end of an amazing excursion out to Little Gull Island Lighthouse. Her young volunteer who showed me the harbor light was also a remarkable asset to the program. I had such a wonderful day rejoicing in a hobby I love because of the dedication to excellence of this amazing staff. Thank you to all who keep the New London Custom House Museum thriving!

Great museum about the history of New London, whaling, local lighthouses, and the Custom House itself. Upstairs exhibit on the Amistad also really interesting and moving. Tour guide Jim did an excellent job bringing everything to life!

Had some time to kill before my train to New Haven. Stumbled on this gem of a museum. Fascinating exhibits and artifacts. Dick the tour guide was a gentleman and a scholar. Topics on display: diving, subs, light houses, whaling, and the Armistad. Truly awesome. Recommend!

Got the tour from the “guy in red suspenders” who was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the New London area and it’s maritime history (water, whaling, and war made the port here what it is)…turned into a fascinating 2 1/2 hour tour of several connections to American history including a fascinating description of the Amistad story. One of the best places for history in the area.
