It was "just a small job."
We only wanted a handrail installed on our existing concrete front porch steps, and it only took two years and being ignored or blown off by three other contractors to get the job done right!
It was "just a small job," and apparently, some contractors really don't like to bother with small jobs, so they may show up a couple of times scattered over a couple of months and promise an estimate that never materializes. Or, as in one instance, provide an estimate that is priced to say, "It's just a small job, and I really don't want to do it, but if you're willing to pay this much, I guess I can."
Then I left a voicemail message with Cisneros Wrought Iron.
Admittedly, two weeks went by without a callback, but then I received a text message apologizing for the delay: "I'm sorry. I've been working out of town and just got your message. Can we set an appointment this week, and I will bring another employee with me, and we will provide you with an estimate." Señor Cisneros brought a different "employee" each of the four times he came...to look at the project, to adjust his measurements, to do the installation, and to do the final touch up and paint the welded joints.
Oh, and Señor Cisneros was almost embarrassed to give us his estimate numbers (which were less than 1/4 of the last estimate we received).
It was just a small job, but we got a custom designed, beautifully fabricated, and carefully installed handrail on our front steps.

All's well that ends well.
