We returned to the CWI 42 years after our first date there. At that time, we stayed in a fully-furnished cottage by the lagoon. Now these cottages have been replace by Scandinavian style condos, rooms are quite sparse, without chairs or drawers. However, the king bed was one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept on! The restaurant has an unusual menu, so be sure to ask about the dishes before ordering. Also, no green salad on the menu, but the kitchen made a beautiful one for me when I asked. Service is marvelous.

If youâre on here checking Google reviews to see if you should stay here - pay attention. You might be confused as I was - seeing so many conflicting reviews. If you like rustic accommodations that have history and summer camp vibes and willing to pay 300-600 a night for that then you might like it here. If youâre checking out the restaurant and live locally on the island or visiting - totally check it out. Maybe this place is magical
In the summer if you like summer camp vibes?
The breakdown with a scale 1-5 rating:
Customer services - 2 - we checked out early due to our dissatisfaction with the property and inability to switch rooms in a timely manner (we had to move rooms due to availability and were expected to have a 4-5 hour gap between them during a storm). With a 14 day cancellation fee we were charged for both nights.
Rooms - 2 - very rustic and while decorated with style the quality is poor. Rooms are basic, small, older.
Restaurant - 3 - we joined a group dinner event since the restaurant was closed that night and the people were super friendly and we loved the wine.
Coffee shop- 4 - hours open is limited. We enjoyed the coffee and burritos.
Grounds - 3 - not large grounds. Not great for a staying with a dog. The dock was not open and no swimming off the dock. The dock was one of the reasons we booked the hotel - to cold plunge. Nowhere on the website did it show it would be closed in winter.

I was really looking forward to scouting this place as a potential getaway weekend however the customer service or should I say lack of, completely turned me off,
We opened the big red front door with curiosity and excitement only to see the receptionistâs hair tucked behind a computer screen and she who completely ignored us. We stood there waiting and finally I had to interrupt her internet browsing to ask about prices, rooms, property. She clearly was bothered and didnât offer much more than âya, look aroundâ then immediately turned her attention back to her screen. We did a brief walk through then as we passed by her to
go out the noisy big entry door, she stayed glued to her computer without uttering a word to us.
Why would you ever want to spend hard earned money on a business that ignores you? No thanks.

Our stay at Captain Whidbey Inn was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by the serene setting and warm hospitality. The view of the pond from our room was breathtakingâpeaceful and picturesque, like a scene from a storybook.
The rooms were spotless and incredibly cozy, blending historic charm with modern comforts. Every detail felt thoughtfully curated, making it easy to relax and unwind. The customer service was impeccableâstaff members went above and beyond to ensure our family felt welcome and cared for.
Our kids were absolutely delighted by the experience. Whether exploring the grounds or simply enjoying the cozy atmosphere, they had a wonderful time, which made our stay even more enjoyable.
We spent two nights at the inn and left with memories weâll cherish for years to come. Captain Whidbey Inn is a true gem, and we canât wait to return! If you're looking for a magical and relaxing getaway, this place is a must-visit.

Historic Pacific NW gem. This place is beautiful, cozy, and charming. Visiting in May worked well, before the peak summer tourist season for Whidbey Island. Evenings by the lobby fireplace or making sâmores at the outdoor firepit need flannel shirts. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was delicious. My mom and I got separate rooms in the historic building, which I loved. If (when) I go back, the cabins also look cool. |Tried the sauna and it was fine. Hotel is a quick drive from Coupeville but itâs a fine spot to just hang out and relax, no tvâs in the rooms. Unplug and chill.

I used to LOVE coming here- the hotel itself is gorgeous and the location canât be beat. One star for the recent change in customer service.
My fiance and I booked a stay mid week in September. Only a few days before we left for vacation they called to tell us due to a scheduling error they had to cancel our whole trip⌠we had already taken time off work, made arrangements to get to the island and were left to scramble. I work at the hospital and had traded multiple shifts so I could get some time awayâŚ. The staff offered no apology, no compensation or adjustment for canceling our whole vacation. They didnât seem to care we needed to cancel a vacation a few days in advance.
We brushed it off because we love the area and have had so many good past experiences! Tried to book again for our honey moon in October, just one week awayâŚ. I canât believe it but they just called and canceled again. No apology, offered us a different day we canât come on.
They donât seem to take booking reservations seriously, appreciate customer service or making guests feel valued like they used to.
Addendum- after posting the manager very kindly called to reach out and apologize. She reviewed some of the changes to the booking system they are making to avoid in the future, and offered us a complimentary stay to make up for the cancellations which was quite kind.
Place is absolutely beautiful during Christmas. We had a wonderful meal and little getaway.

We have visited several times for dinner and drinks, but just had our first overnight stay at the Inn. I can firmly say this is a Whidbey Island hidden treasure I wish everyone could experience! Every aspect of the Inn, from the dining room and bar, to the gift shop and the wellness center, is so thoughtfully curated. Every time we go I am blown away by the beautiful interior, the excellent customer service and the overall experience. We canât wait to come back with family in the summer!

Loved the sauna and peaceful grounds! The bartender is super charming and the dinner was fabulous! We came with our dog and stayed in the pet friendly lagoon suites. Very charming and can't wait to return!
