hi i went to the October seminar Friday was meet Gary and company we were well received by all. Saturday was breakfast and back for tour and the how a rod blank starts off from material chosen and pattern cutting. We then got to see the rolling of the material around the mandrel, then taped. We got to see from the start to finished rod blank. There were handles and grips that were up for us to try to build with their expert watching over to help. They had us stop for lunch with all of the people from the departments of the plant. They showed the test machine with the graph and load tested some of the various blanks. Rod guide wrap covering with epoxy was also shown. The crew of everyone was a good group that they have under their roof. The visit, the info , the tour were all a good fit. Thanks for having us i was well pleased with the event. Thank you Gary, Alex and other people of North Fork for tour and the building of awesome fishing rods Jim Berry.

I have been a custom rod builder for a number of years. NFC is one of the blank manufacturers I do business with as they build quality blanks with proprietary industry leading materials. The blanks are well desired by people all over the world and can take longer than other manufacturers. If your want to order a blank and have it delivered yesterday this is not the company for you.

I’ve bought approximately 30 Edge Rods over the span of the last 4 years for raffle prizes and finally managed to pick up a few for my own personal use.
They are fantastic rods and they definitely have a large variety to choose from for many of my different fishing needs. I love the at they feel, the level of sensitivity is unmatched by any other design I’ve fished with. I can truly feel the way a spoon, crank bait, jerk bait or jig is reacting to my retrieve speed.
They build to fill orders unless you select a rod that is listed “in stock”, it may take a month or twomaybe three, they are worth the wait. There are several people I know that wait a year to buy raffle tickets in hope of winning one.

Updated review:

I ended up buying many more rods after loving my first edge rod and my next 10’6wt rods were completely different than the rod I absolutely loved. They were super slow action and very floppy. I also bought a 10wt and the cork is so short that I don’t get the leverage I need to cast properly. It makes a 10 weight feel like the swing weight of an 11 or 12. My 7 weight Orvis rod has a taller grip than this 10wt. These small things make a huge difference in the cast-ability and leverage to fight a fish. I’m disappointed in the inconsistency of these rods. I am disappointed in the poor design and thought that went into making this 10wt rod. On top of all of that. My 10 wt took 8 months to ship in. Whoever is in charge of the sales is running that business into the ground. They are playing catch up now and putting no love into building these rods. On top of all of this. I received an email of them blackmailing me to delete my review by them writing a bad review of my business. What a petty thing for them to do! The way they acted shows so much immaturity. I just want them to work with me and be professional but they can’t seem to do that.

Bought the archetype 10’ 6wt for Stillwater and the quality of this rod is unbelievable. Never have I seen a fly rod made in America at this price point. I am a full time guide and paid full price because they don’t do much of a guide discount like other companies do. That is because they already are charging so much less than other companies that they just can’t go lower. Totally makes sense when you look at the profit margins and compare to other companies such as sage. I recommend these rods to everyone! I’m blown away by how much of a markup other companies do. It’s disgusting and we gotta start supporting companies like edge! Thank you Gary loomis!

I drove up from Northern California to attend the advanced rod building seminar in October 2024. The I-5 freeway was free sailing until I hit Portland where traffic came to a near standstill. I hadn’t anticipated traffic jams in the great Northwest… I arrived in Woodland, WA with just enough time to check into the motel, make a phone call (wife), and head to Edge Rods Pro Shop for the Friday night dinner, drinks, reception, and Q&A with Gary Loomis. Upon entering the Edge Pro Shop, I got a feeling of Déjà vu, like a kid in a candy store. The shop has an awesome display of Edge Rods and every salmon, steelhead and saltwater lure ever made and in every size. I knew that I had made a great choice to attend the seminar. I met Aleks as he was juggling the pizza delivery, dinner setup, and greeting guests, he was very friendly and welcoming. I got the sense that Edge Rod’s is in good hands with Aleks at the helm. After pizza and beer, Aleks and Gary told stories, explained the rod building industry, and answered questions. The next morning, we were greeted with coffee and donuts then broke into groups to tour the factory. I was amazed at the engineering, craftmanship and artistry that goes into making a rod blank. The process was more hands on than I had imagined from hundreds of different mandrels, cutting the material into flags and rolling it onto the mandrel, wrapping cellophane, securing and tensioning the mandrels on the oven rack, and sanding and fitting the ferrules by hand. I have a greater appreciation for the blanks when I pull them from the packing tube. I should mention that they feed us well. For lunch they fed us homemade halibut and for dinner homemade fried chicken along with a buffet table of side dishes and appetizers. I would do it again just for the food!

What an Incredible experience, the information I thought I knew prior to going was nothing compared to what I learned, and after. Gary, Alex, Ivan, and the crew are a wealth of knowledge and they openly share all aspects of the business. Is you have the opportunity to attend, i can recommend it enough.

Had the chance to take the advanced rod building seminar and it was truly amazing. Gary was filled with such great insight and fantastic stories. The entire staff was so friendly and genuinely excited to show us how they work their magic. Alex went above and beyond at every turn and is just a legitimately kind and generous dude. I cannot recommend the seminar enough. It was fun, informative and above all else extremely helpful in making me better at my craft.

This has been a miserable experience. On 1 January 2025 I placed an order for a 7wt fly rod blank. It is now 6 March and the blank has not arrived. I have called "customer service" multiple times to try and determine the status of my order. None of my calls have been returned. This morning I filed a dispute with my credit card company requesting an investigation and return of my funds.

Bottom line: do not do business with this firm. There are other manufacturers of rod blanks that provide excellent customer service. This is not one of them.
