The experience was great overall, the service was friendly and welcoming. Low-key environment but with a lovely set-up, both indoor and outdoor tables. Dog friendly for the outside tables on the 'lawn' area. Wooded, so lots of shade. We didn't find a wine we really fell in love with though, they focus on terroir so I imagine each year is quite different, may return again. Wines had very interesting, unique profiles, but they weren't as well-balanced as I'd generally like overall. We've heard good things from others from other years though, people who bought cases. Might have just been an off-year.

Arterra Wines is always a 5/5 experience. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere amazing, and the wine delicious. Their wine until nine events are highly recommended, with live music and bonfire.
Even if not going to an event, their tasting room is cozy and spacious. The atmosphere and dress are casual. Flights are $20 and give you a great sampling of what's on offer.
Personal recommendations: I've never had a bad red wine from them, and their blueberry apple wine is a local favorite that everyone loves.

Absolutely the most charming, rustic tasting room and property with a staff that truely knows their wines- 100% recommend. If you are interested in local,clean, sulfite-free wine production, Arterra must be top of your list.

An unexpected surprise (is there any other kind?) is waiting for you at this winery. Off the beaten path and not big budget like some surrounding wineries Arterra boasts a healthier production process, less additives and more pure goodness. This winery also houses an artists studio with pottery items available for purchase. The wines are as advertised (I am told) simple and clean. This place has a great atmosphere, while still being small. An outdoor fire keeps you warm in the winter but there is plenty of heat inside. If you are in the area this is a must see. There are even short trails to overlooks for the kiddos.

Had a great afternoon at Arterra. Really liked the wine selection, especially the Chenin Blanc, Gruner, Tannat, and Cab Franc.

The location is beautiful too. Secluded, with great seating and great views. Super friendly staff as well.

If you’re thinking about a wine trip to the area, this is a must-go location. Highly recommend.

This is a family run winery located in Fauquier County whose personal mandate is to produce all natural wines from Virginia grown grapes. There are no added sulfites or other chemicals and most wines are aged in neutral oak or stainless steel resulting in an accessible and appealing fruit forward profile that is different to most Virginia wines locally. The tasting room is cozy with an assortment of table sizes and there is a large outdoor picnic area with plenty of tables where dogs are welcome. Please note, there are a number of fairly steep gravelled steps from the parking area to the tasting room. There is a railing but you will want to wear appropriate footwear. We tried all of the reds on offer as well as a unique Amphora aged Chardonnay (an amphora is a clay vessel often used in the ancient world) which was excellent. The server was excellent at explaining the differences in production style of the various wines. There are a variety of snacks available and we tried the charcuterie board which was delicious and thoughtfully put together to provide complimentary flavors to the wines. If you’re looking for something different in Virginia wine this is the winery to try.

Gorgeous winery location nestled in the woods. Ample seating inside and out. Very friendly staff.

We sampled 10 wines. The reds were all wonderful, the whites a bit hit and miss but overall very good wines. We've seen some reduced ratings for Anterra wines but they must be based on the whites only. The reds are well worth the visit.

Of the whites/rose the best was the the dry rose rated a 7.5 (out of 10) followed by the Chenin Blanc at a 7. We tried the two of the Chardonnays (the Zero and Amphora) which rated out at 5.5 and 6.0. The florally Traminette was a 6.0.

The reds were a different story. The Petite Sirah was only a 6.5 but the rest of the reds were superb - Cab Frac (8.0), Petite Verdot (8.5), Tannat (8.5) and the Crooked Run blend was a 9.0.

We bought some bottles and a couple of the wonderful craft items they have on offer.

Definitely worth return visits. You won't be disappointed.
