I am not a member, I live in Smithfield VA.
I have attended funerals of family who were members of. During these difficult times the church community were so nice and caring. They provided comfort, and worked very hard to set up the reception hall for the funeral reception. Such a comforting experience for. Reminded me of the church I grew up in years ago. Thank to all of you.

I had heard some good things about this church & growing up Methodist as a child, i decided to visit in October. For my first time visiting, i took a friend to their church dinner. We were both pleasantly surprised by the number of tables & the ambiance. The room was spacious with tables already set with silverware & napkins so it felt like being @ a friends dining room table or a nice restaurant (instead of having a cafeteria like atmosphere, which we were kind of expecting). The food was excellent with generous portions & on the evening we visited, seconds were served for those who wanted more. We were very impressed with the number of volunteers, both young & old, circulating around the tables, being very attentive to refilling beverage glasses, clearing off finished plates, etc. Not knowing what to expect, we were not @ all disappointed with the food & fellowship we experienced.

Oak grove church has a special spot in my heart me my daughter and mother lived there for a week almost 10 yrs ago it had the most memorable personal showers they have a beautiful church and even allowed us to watch a movie before we had to get some sleep and they also had some pretty great cooks there for wens family dinners I wish they still had them it was a fantastic experience to get 10 years ago

This church is exactly what I was looking for! Everyone is very friendly and open to newcomers. If you want to get involved, there are numerous opportunities to volunteer in a variety of ministries. They offer a good selection of small groups/Sunday school classes. The music is excellent and Pastor Frank is personable and casual. The youth play a big part in the service and they also recently opened the popular "Sonny's Wonderful Cafe", where they sell smoothies, coffies, pastries and specials! Highly recommended. This is a wonderful church. I've been a member since I was a kid. My husband joined this year. We absolutely love our Sunday school class and are continuing to try and get involved. Our son (3yr) is in the Sunday school class. This church is filled with lots of love and activities for the whole family. I love that you are a person and not just a number at OGUMC. You can feel the love of Christ when you walk in the doors.

Was like a second home to me, growing up. Historic civil war era building with traditional services, and a huge modern building for anything and everything else you should expect at a church. Very community involved and welcoming. An example of the good side of religion.

Oak Grove is a beautiful house of God on the main intersection in Chesapeake. The congregation is diverse and friendly.
I love that there are two distinctly different services. the early service is in the 1850 sanctuary and is traditional. The 11:00 service is in the modern Whitehurst Hall, and the contemporary praise band is awesome!
