So, I had them re-weld 1 joint and add a-frame trailer coupler support plates on the front of my 6x10' aluminum utility trailer to add ridgity. The 2 plates were either 6061 or 5 series of 4" x 1/4" aluminum plate. Between prep and weld, they claimed on the tickets to have some 3.5 hours and at a net repair cost of $449. I was like ummm, are you sure we have the right job, since both the time and cost seemed really excessive. To make things even better, the welds are really rough, not even looking like the stock welds on the trailer. I wish I could post pics so one can see. There is close to 28" of linear welding, +/- 1/2". The owner Clayton, standing next to me by my trailer now, I asked him to look at the job as we are both staring at it, and I said "really - 3 1/2 hours..." he confirms that's what their time card said, 2 people worked on it both prep and weld. At this point I wanted some kind of validation from the owner "technical in the field" who should have an idea what it takes to get stuff done, nothing.. so, before you submit work, do your homework, get your quotes and maybe ask to see what their welds look like. Yeah they were quick, same day turn around, but looks poor, with a price tag that honestly makes you feel like you got ..... at 128/hr there are many options. Good luck.
