We got interest free financing for a new furnace. The company we purchased the furnace from arranged for the financing. After we were approved I was surprised that there was a $69.00 convenience fee so I wanted to get different financing but it was too late to keep the schedule so we stayed with the financing with Synchrony.

We setup the auto payment plan and were ready to make payments that way. The first month I was surprised to find that the payment didn’t go through so I called Synchrony to find out what the trouble was. After going through the robot prompts, I finally got to a human and was told that the bank account number was probably wrong. I re-entered the number and told the support person that, although the account was a savings, Synchrony labeled it as a checking account. I questioned that and he said “that doesn’t matter, as long as the account number is right it will work.”

So with it all set, again, I found out that it wasn’t accepted the next month (January payment). I went through the robot again and finally got someone to talk to and they said “it actually can only be deducted from a checking account.” The website should say that and your support people should know that. After asking to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold and was cut off!

I called back again, went through the robot again, finally got to an agent, asked for a supervisor, was put on hold, a person got on a identified himself as “Hugh” and was cut off again!!!

I didn’t want to go through the robots again so I made a manual payment and setup the auto pay through my checking account. I’m waiting to see what February brings.

After all this aggravation I really feel that the $69.00 activation fee should be waived, especially since it was so inconvenient AND that I could have interest free financing without the fee from other sources.

After two days, I was able to talk to a "supervisor" but he said they can't waive the activation. He offered to let me talk to another supervisor but they would say the same thing.

I now see many, many bad reviews for Synchrony. I guess it would pay to check these reviews first.

Avoid Synchrony if you can.

If I could give 0 stars I would. First they open up an auto credit card I never asked for. They followed that up by reducing the credit limit of my Verizon cash back card by the exact amount of this new card. I never signed up for this new card, never wanted it, and then here they go and take away the card that got me points for a card with 35% interest. I will not soon forget this and I have already begun looking at my legal options. This is a scam not a bank.

Scammed by ebay tracking number scam from China but Synchrony bank sides with the foreign national I uploaded documentation from the post office showing no package was delivered An envelope was delivered weighing less than one ounce to a different address in my zip code but this bank through paypal credit still trying to hold me responsible for this charge I will never EVER pay for this scam so you might as well send it to credit agencies and I'll deal with it I have high 700's and even 800 credit score in the past two years and an ebay account with over 105 5* reviews yet this piece of trash from china had a brand new account for one month and no reviews and then closed the account after this "transaction" and they side with the piece of trash in China with no verifiable identity, no account, totally invisible fake ebay account. They're all in on it ebay paypal and synchrony bank If you are an American you are prey

I had a synchrony card for more than 2 years and all on time payments. However , synchrony decided to close the account without any notice to me. They follow such bad practices which will IMPACT customer’s credit scores and overall credit utilization percentage. The bank needs to be sued for following such malpractices. Never ever apply any credit cards from synchrony.
Apparently , I read the reviews and almost all customers has this problem with synchrony and high time synchrony will need to be held responsible.

0 STAR. This is the NO.1 bank to go for if you want the WORST banking experience. Absolute garbage.
Note that if you get free financing for one transaction, you have to contact their customer care to manually allocate your payment, and it might not be successful, which results in interests and late fees. They waive the late fees but not the interest. Payment page UI is very simple but counterintuitive, good news is that they did their best to confuse you.

Plus, their customer service agents, specifically account managers if the issue cannot handled by regular staff, are extremely rude and unprofessional. They do not listen to you, will not help you, and blame everything on you despite the system which is trying to trick you into paying various fees and interests. I work in a large bank as well but have never seen such a company using so many schemes to fraud customers. I am not sure about their compliance with laws and regulations, but I am sure the business practices are unethical and disappointing.

On time long payment history, had a problem with a new checking bank account number payment was rejected got charged a $30 return check fee from synchrony that services Lowe's so I called them since it was one day late asked if they could reverse the charge so they put me on hold for about 10 minutes came back and said they can't do it, how sad and pathetic it is basically stealing people's money. Now I will pay off my balance and will no longer do business with them. They should be ashamed of themselves poor customer service.

Here I am, a long-time account holder with over a 5-year partnership, never had any issues with my account, paid my balance in full numerous times and I just paid it off again and as soon as I do, I get a letter saying my account was canceled. This never happened to me before, I'm not happy with their methods, and I will stay as far away as possible from this company. Also, they will never receive a recommendation from me ever PERIOD!!!

I would give them a minus 5 stars due to the incompentant customer service. I had trouble changing my cell phone number, and when I finally was able to speak with a human, they requested a 5 second video of my face and a picture of my state issued ID. I told him that was ridiculas and if that is what it takes to update my cell number, just close my account. Well, they did. I am so done with ANYTHING connceted with Synchrony... JC Penny's, Lowe's are cards I cut up.
