The install team from Leahy's Fuel Oil were fantastic. They walked me thru the process they were going to follow to drain, disconnect, and remove our very old flat oil tank, and replace it with a brand new double wall tank. From.beginning to end, the process was quiet, clean and efficient. Highly recommend the capabilities of the Leahy's install team.

Caused a gas leak, failed inspection, finished the job 7 weeks late.

I had Leahy's replace a gas-fired forced air furnace and an AC compressor. This was going to be a one-day job, I was told. Then everything started to go wrong.

July 1: Crew showed up on time, which is when I found out that Leahy's had subcontracted out the job and never told me. In the middle of the job, when the old equipment was already taken away, they realized that the AC compressor was too close to the dryer outlet. Apparently they never measured beforehand. Dave, the Leahy's sales rep, was trying to tell me that it really didn't matter and pressuring me to accept the system as is. I finally asked him, "so will this pass inspection or not?" and he was super cagey.

Turns out the reason Dave was cagey about the inspection was that Leahy's never applied for a permit in the first place. I had to call the building department to find this out. Leahy's had charged me an additional $175 in permit fees when they quoted the job.

July 5: Two guys from Leahy's came back to move the dryer vent away from the AC compressor. Since they had to run the vent through a crawlspace, they had to drill holes through two walls. They wanted to run a flex hose along the floor of the crawlspace; I had to make them go and get rigid duct. (The dryer manual specifically says not to use flex hose for that length of run).

Meanwhile, while the two guys were drilling through the wall, I opened up the new furnace and discovered that there was an air filter mashed in there, held in by a piece of flat stock and a screw. Apparently this model furnace is supposed to be installed with an external holder for the filter (the slot where you slide the filter in), but they apparently forgot to put one in. And then they just mushed in a filter hoping nobody would open up the furnace and notice. After I called Leahy's about this, the subcontractor came back two weeks later to put in a filter holder. Dave from Leahy's had to come by yet another time to fix a cover on the AC compressor and fix two wire nuts that were just dangling free outside of the AC unit.

This brings us to July 24th and the building inspection. Which Leahy's failed. Turns out the gas line wasn't properly secured, and the electrician never switched out the breakers for the new equipment - the breakers were the wrong size.

August 9, Leahy's and electrician came by to fix the issues, and somehow managed to make this situation worse. They did put in the right breakers. And they redid the connection to the furnace. But half an hour after they left, the tenants smelled gas and we had to call 911. The fire department came, along with police and Eversource. The tenants, including two small children, had to be evacuated from their house into the rain, while the fire department went in to investigate.

Bethel FD determined that the gas leak was caused by the gas line being incorrectly connected to the furnace. Once the Leahy's tech showed up, the assistant chief of the Bethel volunteer fire department personally coached him on how to make a gas connection. The Leahy's tech didn't have a gas sniffer and had to test for leaks by spreading soapy water over the line, so he missed the leaky connection the first time around.

All's well that ends well, I guess. The gas connection was finally fixed. The inspector came again and passed the work on the 16th, seven weeks after the "one day" job started. Between the initial work, rework, visits to take more measurements, inspections, and the odd fire department visit, this job required ten separate visits to the house from start to finish. If you are looking to get a new furnace or AC installed, I would suggest just about any other company could do better than Leahy's.

Postscript:
I got a bill from Leahy's in the mail a week later. They had tacked on a late fee to the balance owing, since it had been more than thirty days since the job was started. I got the late fee taken off, and I also got a 6% discount on the bill for the inconvenience - after I called their president.

Had them install new propane for a insert fireplace. The employees that showed up were great and answered all my questions. However it's Dave Thomas that's the superstar. He literally was the reason I went to Leahy's vrs other competitors I had lined up. Excellent communicator and went to bat being a liaison with the fireplace company.

Once again, Leahy’s sent someone to fix my fire logs that I bought from them and they were unable to get them to work for more than a couple hours. It has now been two months and two trips to the house and they can’t seem to fix the fire logs that they sold us. Upon requesting someone come out again I’m told it’ll be another week so forget about having them for Christmas. In short, if you need someone reliable, don’t use them. Also, Leahy’s, don’t sell things you cannot service.

I just purchased a house where Leahy's had provided propane service. I decided I was going to switch and stay with my current propane company who have been very good to me over the past several years. I had nothing against Leahy's, just that I like to stick with companies I know and trust. And now I am SO glad I decided to ditch Leahy's. They were informed the switch was going to occur but instead of waiting until my new tanks were in place, they came in over the weekend and just took their tanks...no call...no notice..nothing!!!! It is a good thing I noticed this had happened as I have not moved in to the house yet and with the cold overnight temperatures coming up, I could have had a real disaster with frozen pipes. Think twice before picking them as your propane supplier! They appear to be sore losers with no concern for what there actions might cause!!!

Our initial experience with Leahy's was very good, response was quick and we got good basic information on what moving to a propane system for a new gas range would involve. Dan Notaro was knowledgeable and good to work with. I did most of the setup work myself (with some help) and it took quite a while from our initial quote from Dan before we were ready to go. At that point Dan got us scheduled quickly and the install crew was punctual and did a nice job of getting us hooked up, and answered several questions I had. Professional service all the way, we look forward to doing business with Leahy's for a long time.

I called to get an oil tank filled, said their guys wouldn’t be in my area until Saturday, charged my card and everything. Today is Monday and I called to ask what happened, put me on hold just to tell me they’ll be in the area tomorrow. I said I needed it today and they proceed to tell me I can put diesel fuel in my tank (which I knew already, and would’ve done sooner if I knew I had to wait 3 more days after it was supposed to get delivered. No apology, no compensation, no nothing.
I do not recommend this company at all. Unreliable.
