The Stereo Shop in Hartford is the BEST audio/Stereo shop in Connecticut! They are one of the very few stores where you don't need to make an appointment so you can go in and listen to the equipment. I have worked with Rick and Dave to purchase my equipment and furniture during this year. Both of them are highly professional, friendly and give great advice. Rich who is the repair technician is also friendly and highly professional. You feel like you're family when you work with them, they'll go the "extra mile" to ensure that you're satisfied with your purchase. I can email or call them and they'll respond quickly and professionally. I tried to do business with other stores but they failed to respond to my inquiries. I travel about an hour to go to their store and it's worth it! When it comes to customer service, the selection and value of the products that they carry and actually service if there are issues is unsurpassed! They are simply the best and they now have a lifelong customer. This store truly deserves your business.

I have been a Stereo Shop customer for close to 25 years, and I could not be happier with the products and the service that I have received over those many years!

After struggling with a few different home audio installers, I discovered The Stereo Shop in the early 2000’s and have not looked back since. Nick Perfito and his team helped me install and expand a whole house system, and then helped make the move to a new location ten years later. Needless to say, they were always available to make tweaks and upgrades along the way!

Finally, Nick and new owner Dave Harrop set up a Savant and Lutron system in a renovated home in 2022, and the results are phenomenal, again.

Both Nick and Dave have had extraordinary product knowledge and manage to stay on top of the absolute cutting edge in audio, video and home automation. Now, Dave is expanding on the traditional strengths of The Stereo Shop to expand into the latest digital AND analog product developments.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, their attention to service in my experience has been second to none!

I want to praise my dealings with both Dave and Rick at the Stereo Shop. They were very patient with me. My current speakers were 8 years old and sounded fine, but I wanted to see if there were some better speakers out there that would fit in my room. Went into the store with my brother to listen to a pair of speakers that had received many positive reviews. After listening to them for about 1/2 hour decided they just weren't going to work for me. We were walking out of the main showroom when we heard a pair of Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2's playing some low volume internet streaming music and thought these sounded good. So they let us listen to them for a while and they did sound very good. They swapped out the Mcintosh intergrated amp for a solid state amp and we noticed a noticeable difference with the solid state amp. Sound was not as good as with the McIntosh MA352 hybrid amp. We didn't know if the Sonetto's would work in my smaller room because of the size, so they were kind enough to bring out both the McIntosh MA352 and the Sonetto's to my home. They took the time to set everything up for the in house demo. To my surprise they sounded great. Ended up purchasing both the McIntosh and the Sonus Faber's,( the combination was best sound I have heard). They delivered and unboxed and set everything up for me. I couldn't be happier. Thanks Stereo Shop, and thank you Dave and Rick for everything!

I have been getting my older McIntosh equipment serviced here for several years and have bought some incredible new components and speakers from them as well. These guys know it all, are super nice and not pushy like a lot of other dealers. After years of building my system it's finally where I want it to be. Totally recommend this place if high end audio is your thing!

In many regards, this place is like stepping back in time to experience the best of what an old school, local Hi-Fi shop was. They have a ton of truly high end gear from the best in the business, in funky old house with listening rooms at every turn. This is where you go to see that new McIntosh amp that you have only read about online, or hear those B+W speakers that cost more than your car. They have it all, and they have it setup right.

As much as all the beautiful new gear is, for me the star of the show is Rich, their service technician. He is an absolute expert technician--specifically for McIntosh components. With 50+ years experience working on McIntosh gear, he is a walking encyclopedia of technical knowledge and advice. There is simply nobody else in the area that has close to his experience and expertise, and nobody else I would trust my vintage McIntosh components too. He knows this stuff inside and out, and was even instrumental in the development of some of the classic pieces. When I brought my 46 year old MC2205 power amp in for help, without even opening it up he knew which specific fuses and transistors were the likely cause of the problem. When I picked it up 2 weeks later and got it home, it looked and sounded better than it ever has! Rich is simply the best of his profession, and his prices are incredibly reasonable.

A++. It's worth the trip just to talk to Rich and learn from his vast knowledge of these classic HiFi components, but for my (purely selfish) sake please don't take up too much of time! I want to keep his repair queue moving so his turnaround stays as fast as it is. Love this place!
