Steamboat Grand - Steamboat Springs, Colorado

We are currently staying at the Steamboat Grand for a week. While the staff is friendly and the location is excellent, we are disappointed with the overall experience—especially given the $12,000 (!!) price tag.

The room lacks basic amenities, making it uncomfortable. The couches feel like cheap plastic, the towels are thin and threadbare, there are no robes, and the bed is uncomfortable. There aren’t even drawers in the bedrooms—where are we supposed to put our belongings?

Housekeeping has been inconsistent—today, one bed was left unmade, and the dishwasher wasn’t run. On top of that, at this price point, charging $5 per use of the dryer and $35 per night for garage parking feels excessive.

Overall, it’s been a frustrating experience. We expected much more from a “newly renovated” hotel at this price.

Overall our stay over Christmas at the Steamboat Grand was great. Staff, room, and pool/fitness are were all excellent. What was not excellent, and is the reason for my 2 star review, is that I got a bill a couple weeks after my visit from the parking garage where the valet decided to park my car. I was told during my check in to just give the keys to the valet and since my stay was over the Christmas holiday they would be happy to provide the parking for free. When I got the parking fee notice in the mail I called the steamboat grand to see if there was a mixup. I emailed them my parking notice as instructed and they emailed me back to say I didn’t pay for parking with them. When I told them what the front desk said about it being complimentary, they never replied despite me following up 3 times…

It’s a beautiful hotel with nice big rooms and great location and amenities but the beds… the beds are SO hard and so uncomfortable. We left early because we couldn’t stand the beds anymore and getting crappy sleep. A four star hotel outta have better beds than that.

Staff was friendly and very helpful.
Room was ok. No drawers. Price was high even with a group discount for a NON ski- in- ski-out hotel. A two block walk to lifts. Resort fee, parking, and multiple taxes staggeringly high.
Breakfast and dinner for a large group was terrible. Same basic group breakfast every day for seven consecutive days. Little variety. No oatmeal, toast, waffles, hotcakes, or cereal ever on any day. Only powered scrambled eggs, pastries, potatoes, juice, and coffee every day. Good fruit served daily too. Very good bacon half the time and occasionally sausage.
Group’s banquet dinner was close to inedible. Beef was super well done and tough, pork was overcooked and dry, salmon was barely ok. Salad was fine. That was for a reported $100 per person(not sure of that figure ). Seemed like dinner was cooked many hours prior and hauled in for the buffet service..
Lunch in the hotel’s separately operating dining room was good.

Steamboat Grand wants to be great. The employees work hard, they’re attentive, they’re polite and they do their best to chase down management. However, mgmt is skilled at aversion and avoidance. In short, the manager, Patrick, will tell you everything you want to hear in order to appease you in the moment, but will never follow through on anything, nor will he make promises right.

Be aware of promises as Patrick has no intention of following through on his commitments.

My advice, stay away.

Facilities are ok. Younger crowd seems to stay here. Frat kids making a ton of noise, ding dong ditching. Harmless fun but annoying after a long day of skiing. Front desk barely picks up the phone. Too expensive in my opinion for the quality. Spending most of my time at the Sheraton while I’m here. Prolly will opt to stay there next time.

Have stayed here before, and found the place perfectly adequate. However, even with advanced lead time in cancelling a recent reservation, they keep 10% of $. Not surprised the place always has vacancy.

Beautiful hotel suite. Love the rustic mountain feel and convenient location. Made for an amazing few days away in the mountains.
