The welder/fabricators on the shop floor are fantastic. Their detailer is a pleasure to talk to—very knowledgeable about steel and more. They have a genuine dedication to safety that is remarkable. They fully support stop work authority for any safety concerns.

The shop features impressive CNC equipment for structural steel and handrails. Great Christmas parties and events throughout the year create a positive atmosphere.

However, my review focuses on management. The operations manager has zero experience in the steel industry and lacks communication skills, often passing issues to others to protect his "perfect record." His leadership is defined by blame shifting, and he insists he knows better despite lacking knowledge of the job. This leads to last-minute job demands that push back other projects unnecessarily.

His "right-hand man" is similarly inexperienced and becomes the scapegoat for any project failures. It's laughable to see someone with his background in an upper management role, especially when his friendship with the VP makes him seem untouchable. He is also overly sensitive, making the workplace uncomfortable.

The VP is a decent person but was mostly absent during my time at MMWF, which doesn’t bode well for future leadership. The owner, while stubborn—sometimes beneficially—runs the company like it’s still the '90s, insisting on controlling all operations and resisting change or technology, not to mention insisting that a 40% gross profit on a project is required to "break even" the level of greed is absolutely despicable. although she hosts excellent Christmas parties so that something.

The foreman, imposes unrealistic expectations instead of advocating for the crew, which is disappointing since he also worked on the shop floor.

Regarding pay, you’ll encounter empty promises and a lack of transparency about salary increases. To earn more, you must be a personal friend or flawless in your work. My first project as PM was a disaster inherited from a predecessor, but I was unfairly blamed for it, which hindered my pay discussions. The situation worsened when a VP's personal friend was hired into management without relevant experience, highlighting the favoritism at play.

A definite restructuring of management is needed. The detailer should have a more significant role, as he understands the industry better than the current leadership. A knowledgeable management team is essential to avoid the poor communication and knowledge gaps that lead to dissatisfaction among customers.

In summary, if you want your project done properly and on budget, consider going elsewhere.
